Scope note
Preservation or conservation technique used for biological specimens that replaces fluids and fat with synthetic materials such as polyester polymers, epoxy resins, and silicone rubber. The technique has been used for the consolidation of organic archaeological materials. Plastinated specimens can be cured with gas, heat or UV- light in order to harden them.
