Scope note
Yellowish-brown powder that absorbs moisture from the air to form green crystals soluble in water. Copper chloride is used as a fixative in dyeing and printing fabrics, as a wood preservative, and in refining of copper, gold, and silver. The hydrolysis and oxidation of copper chloride is responsible for the destructive formation of bronze disease.
