Scope note
Representations in any medium of identified people, where the representation does not necessarily reflect the actual appearance of the person. Conjectural portraits may be based on an estimation of what the person looked like, for example, based on a written description of their appearance. Alternatively, a conjectural portrait may be a representation that is purely imaginary, but intended nonetheless to depict or stand for the person in the context of the art work. For estimated portraits based on forensic or archaeological evidence, reconstructing the appearance of the person based on the skull or other remains, or by using DNA, prefer "forensic facial reconstructions."
