Scope note
Chests richly decorated with marquetry patterns of arches and fantastic architecture, reminiscent of Henry VIII's (vanished) palace of Nonsuch; the appellation means unequalled. Probably made in North Germany, or by 16th-century German craftsmen who settled in London.
