Money that was used in parts of Africa into the 20th century, comprising unadorned copper and iron rods, bars, and blade-shaped pieces. The blades may resemble hatchets, axes, knives, hoes, swords, spearheads, arrows, or other items. Rather than value accorded by weight, these currencies are priced by length.
