Scope note
Referes to the style of Shinto architecture that developed during the Yayoi period (ca. 300 BCE to ca. 300 CE). The style is characterized by a type of shrine with features suggestive of residential architecture of the Kofun period (ca. 300-710), such as columns set directly into the ground, a gable roof, and floors raised high above the earth and accessible by stairs at the gable end.
