Scope note
Refers to the period and style of art, predominantely sculpture and architecture, reigns of the emperors Vespasian (69-79 ), Titus (79–81 CE), and Domitian (81-96 CE), that coincided with the dynasty established after the death of Nero in 69 CE. The style is charcterized by a greater emphasis on depth, pictorial illusion, the use of light and shade, and the construction of large-scale buildings such as public baths and ampitheaters.
