Scope note
Refers to distinctive style of pottery manufactured beginning in the first century BCE. Though the name refers to the city of Pergamon, it was actually produced in many places in Greece, Asia Minor, and the Middle East. It is characterized by a buff-colored body that varies in color, a dark-red gloss, and designs that are usually impressed or incised.
