Scope note
Variant of the daguerreotype process devised by Claude-Abel Niépce de St. Victor, distinguished by the use of silver chloride to produce natural color. The image cannot be fixed, and therefore is impermanent. In the early 20th century, sometimes used to mean color photography in general.
