Scope note
Devices designed to dry and stretch wet woven cloth to a desired width under tension. These devices have been used since the 14th century, during which time they comprised large wooden frames equipped with an array of equidistantly mounted tenterhooks on which wet cloth was fastened and held taut. Mechanized devices now exist, however, characterized by pairs of continuous traveling chains fitted with hooks on horizontal tracks. The chains diverge as they pull the fabric forward through the device, stretching the fabric on all edges. After traveling half the length of the mechanized frame, fabric is exposed to water through the device's spray pipe components and subsequently carried through a heated chamber component to dry.
