Certificates verifying the authenticity of a relic, which is a part of a body or an item that was in contact with a holy person or deity. In Roman Catholic tradition, the certificate for the relic of a saint will attest to the relic's being what it is claimed to be, so far as is known or believed by the signees; it will include the status of the relic as first, second, or third class, defined by the immediacy of association with the saint.
