Scope note
Ancient Roman merchant vessels having a full hull with curved stem and sternpost; generally shorter and wider than "pontones," the other major Roman merchant craft. Corbitae made regular voyages between ports in the Red Sea and the west coast of India, as well as regular Mediterranean routes.
