Scope note
A type of breccia marble, recognizable for the many chips of chalky white which go against the grain of the marble and look like wet paint. Its name may derive from its resemblance to a paste of sugar plums or it may derive from 'Semo Sancus,' a Sabine divinity, to whom statues may have been carved out of this material.
