Scope note
Refuge churches are Protestant churches in Protestant areas in close proximity to recatholicized areas of Silesia. After the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648) in the 17th and 18th centuries, they served not only the local population of the Protestant religion but also the faithful from abroad who did not have religious freedom in their territories.
