A category of Nahua chimalli (shield) designs that were usually paired with the Cuextecatl warrior costume. At least five basic designs are identified, the most common feature either the yacameztli (crescent-shaped nose plate) or the double rectangle motif known as "hawk scratches" that are both associated with the Huastec region.
