Scope note
Coloring or staining a material so it resembles marble or a similar stone. Usually reserved for broader, less delicate techniques, as in interior and exterior construction. An example would be when two differently colored materials are swirled together to form a marbelized appearance in manufacturing countertops. For more delicate, hand-rendered techniques, such as in hand-painting book endpapers to resemble marble, use "marbling."
