Scope note
Objects of any material, such as pieces of wood, bone, paper, straws, etc., used in methods of random selection to secure a decision. Examples of use include in resolving disputes, dividing goods, choosing people for an office or duty, or choosing a course of action. The use of the objects may be seen to appeal to chance or to a divine agent believed to be involved in the results of chance.
