Scope note
Religious doctrine proposed in 622 and adopted by Byzantine Emperor Heraclius which declared that Jesus Christ had one will but two natures, the divine and the human. This ideology was developed under Patriarch Sergius I of Constantinople in attempt to bridge the gap between Monophysites and Chalcedonians, although neither group accepted it. In 680, the Third Council of Constantinople declared Monothelitism as heretical.
