Affenkapelle

- A German type of singerie found on porcelain, introduced at Meissen ca. 1750-1760, probably by Johann Joachim Kändler. Musician monkeys had appeared in singerie painting earlier in such work as that of David Teniers II. Affenkapelle porcelain groups typically consist of twenty or so figures. Other European porcelain factories imitated he groups produced at Meissen.
