Scope note
Color representing that portion of the spectrum that is intermediate between red and blue, with wavelengths between 380 and 420 nanometers. The term may refer to any of this group of colors that vary in lightness and saturation. Examples of violet color in nature are seen in certain plum fruits and in the bloom of the violet plant, Viola odorata. Violet is a secondary pigment color (made by combining blue and red). Spectral violet cannot be reproduced accurately in the RGB color model (used for computer screens).
