Describes a photographic movement identified in an exhibition organized by William Jenkins at the International Museum of Photography at George Eastman House, Rochester, NY (Dec 1975–Feb 1976). Included were ten photographers: Robert Adams, Lewis Baltz, Bernd Becher and Hilla Becher, Joe Deal, Frank Gohlke, Nicholas Nixon , John Schott, Stephen Shore, and Henry Wessel Jr. Jenkins posited that these photographers observed the American landscape with a clinical objectivity rather than a Romantic or Symbolist sensibility that had marked earlier representations.
