Bryophyta (division)
- Scope note
- Formerly classified as a single division called "Bryophyta," it is now split into three divisions: Bryophyta (mosses), Anthocerotophyta (hornworts), and Marchantiophyta (liverworts). Mosses are small, simple land plants which first appeared in the Devonian. They are characterized by lacking true roots, stems, and leaves and relying upon water for reproduction.
