- An analytical technique which measures quantifiable aspects of a stone’s porosity by forcing a non-wetting liquid, such as mercury, into the pores of the material using a porosimeter. The technique is used in archaeological conservation to determine the durability and behavior of ancient stone and the choice of conservation methods
