Scope note
The process of separating, shredding, pulling asunder, carding, or back-combing fibers or hairs in order to draw fibers or hairs in a given direction for the purpose of separating, forming a nap, or increasing volume. Examples of use of the term include in fiber processing, weaving textiles, and in hairdressing.
