Scope note
The process of forming a whole from various parts, particularly the formation of a compound material by the combination of its elements or constituents, of the production of white or other compound light by the combination of its constituent colors, or of the production of a complex musical sound by the combination of its component simple tones. In philosophy, it is the action of proceeding in thought from causes to effects, or from laws or principles to their consequences.
