Scope note
The process or function of evaluating a thing or person against a scale, standard, or other criteria for quality, condition, value, extent, fitness, or other characteristics. Examples are the assessment of the habitable condition of a building or the academic value of a written work. For the estimation of the overall monetary value of a thing, generally prefer “appraising” or “valuation.”
