Scope note
Used to refer to a substance that is neither in the liquid or gaseous state but instead in the solid state. The solid state is the state of matter in which a substance does not flow perceptibly under moderate stress; has a capacity for resisting forces (as compression or tension) which tend to deform it; and under ordinary conditions retains a definite size and shape.
