Scope note
Oval wooden or metal face masks made and used by the Senufo people of northern Côte d'Ivoire, southern Mali, and southwestern Burkina Faso. Representing the female element, these masks are generally slightly smaller than life-size. They are ornamented with sets of geometric projections that flank the crown of the head, upper face, and mouth, diagonal scarifications on each cheek, and sometimes a set of vertical horns.
