Scope note
Sets of small books planned around themes and housed together in cases. The first of this type of collection was from the English publisher John Marshall circa 1800, who issued diminutive libraries with ornamental pediments added to the boxes to give the impression of glass-fronted bookcases. Sets such as these have appeared thereafter in various forms. Miniature libraries were typically collected for children.
