Scope note
Visual compositions incorporating content from a particular Buddhist text, usually taken from descriptions in sutras having to do with transformative experiences. Examples include birth in a Buddhist paradise, the intervention of bodhisattvas in human affairs, and images of hell. These are ritual works, not only illustrative.
