Scope note
The cycle of death and rebirth experienced by all unawakened beingsover potentially infinite eons consisting often of six destinies: (1) divinity, (2) demigod, (3) human, (4) animal, (5) ghost, and (6) hell dweller in Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism. Although debated, the concept is probably of non-Vedic or heterodox origin.
