- Korean writing system and alphabet, comprising 24 consonant and vowel letters. Consists of characters composed in part of smaller elements representing phonetic features such as place of articulation, which are combined into larger units representing syllables. Traditionally ascribed to King Sejong (ruled 1419-1450).
