- MPEG-4 is an evolving coding standard for defining the compression of audio-visual objects, designed for use in broadcast, interactive and conversational environments. MPEG-4 absorbs many of the features of MPEG-1 and MPEG-2. MPEG-4 incorporates a variety of compression ratios that exchange picture quality for bandwidth and storage size.
