Scope note
A movement among French painters of the 1920s and 1930s that manifested in reaction to then current, modern movements such as Surrealism and Cubism. Essentially an attempt to bridge modernism with academicism with an emphasis on normally perceived reality, the movement was unofficially led by Dunoyer de Segonzac. Other artists associated with the movement were Robert Lotiron, Raymond-Jean Legueult, Charles Dufresne and Luc-Albert Moreau. Néo-Réalisme is not connected with the later movement known as Nouveau Réalisme.
