Scope note
High-ranking military title in Tenochtitlan. Warriors were associated with a particular hairstyle, snail shell fringed necklaces and distinctive grid-like face paint. Not to be confused with the ethnic designation referring to populations in the mountains north of the Valley of Mexico.
