Any silicate of calcium as occurs crystallized in diopside and other minerals. Hydrated calcium silicate with inorganic fiber reinforcement is commonly molded into a high temperature insulation material, a safe alternative to asbestos. Calcium silicates are also used in the manufacture of materials such as glass, porcelain, and cement, and as fillers for plastics and paper.
