Scope note
A green mineral named in 1801 by D. de Fallizen for the Atacama Desert in Chile. It occurs naturally as copper oxychloride in oxidation zones of copper deposits in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia, or as chloride corrosion on copper and bronze. The mineral has been used as a pigment on sculpture, manuscripts, maps, and frescoes.
