Scope note
Cut pieces of hard, non-porous material, originally rock, that can take a sharp edge. Frequently these are made of flint stone, but can also be any kind of chert, quartz, agate, jasper or chalcedony. These are used to produce sparks by friction against a iron striker or firesteel.
