- Late-medieval daggers in widespread use by the mid-1300s. These were long, slim needle-pointed blades with cylindrical grips, usually placed between disc-shaped pommels and crossguards, both called rondels. The blade could either be flat, with one or two sharp edges, diamond-shaped, or triangular.
