Scope note
Table-long centerpieces of silver or gilt that may carry flowers, fruit and condiments, as well as other items. They typically comprise a platform, often mirrored and set on feet, and upon which are typically placed two candelabras, an epergne, a large bowl on a stand, flat bowls or étagères, and other items, including flowers and various fruits, confections, and sweets displayed in a decorative manner and intended to be eaten as dessert.
