head-vases
- Scope note
- Vessels partly in the shape of a moldmade head or face. For aryballoi, kantharoi, mugs, oinochoai, and rhyta, the head usually constitutes the body of the vessel. All other parts of a head-vase (except for the handles) are wheelmade. Animal heads are most popular for rhyta while human heads or faces are characteristic for other vessel types.
