Scope note
Small, extremely rare egg-shaped vessels of ancient Greece, found in both black- and red-figure. The specific use of oa is not determined although real eggs as well as marble and ceramic ones were placed in graves. Lidded oa might have held scented oil (perfume). Lidless oa were probably not containers since they either have a small hole at one or both end or no opening at all.
