Scope note
Ribbons or sashes, usually white in color and tied in a bow, formerly worn by both boys and girls in some Christian churches when they received their first communion or their solemn communion. The item was often retained as a souvenir of the event. Where this practice is continued today, the bow is often smaller and attached to a sleeve.
