Scope note
Refers to the square cloths used for wiping the face, carried by the upper classes in Ancient Rome. Examples are cloths venerated as relics, believed to be parts of the cloth carried by Saint Veronica, which according to legend, was used to wipe the face of Christ and on which his features were impressed.
