Scope note
Style and culture of Iroquioan-speaking Native Americans in North Carolina and Virginia. Related to the Tuscarora and Nottoway; formerly referred to as the "Maharineck" or "Mangoac" by Euro-Americans and Algonquins in the 17th and 18th centuries. In 1986, were state-recognized as the "Meherrin Indian Tribe."
