Shaker Style
- Scope note
- Style of architecture and furniture that abides by or imitates rules set out in the Shaker Millennial Laws, which require simple forms that are undecorated by beadings, moldings, and cornices. Buildings were typically constructed of brick, wood, or limestone. The buildings reflect local vernacular styles and none of those responsible for the principal planning and construction had any formal architectural training.
