- Scope note
- Literally "gold brocaded", these overglaze-enamelled wares, mainly bowls, were most likely produced in China in the 16th century chiefly for export to Japan although some may have also been manufactured in Japan during the 19th century. They became very popular in the West as well. The dominant color was usually red or white, with lesser amounts of red, yellow and green and they were embellished with gold, generally in a floral scroll pattern.
