Pegu

- Refers to the style named for the city Pegu that flourished during the ninth century as capital of the Mon Kingdom, located on the Pegu River, 47 miles northeast of Yangôn. Examples of artistic production in this style include the ancient and sacred Shwemawdaw, a pagoda shrine 288 feet high, and the Shwethalyaung, a gargantuan reclining statue of Buddha.
