Scope note
Refers to the period of prehistoric tool making that followed the Mousterian industry in Upper Paleolithic Europe. It is named after a region in south central France. It overlaps somewhat with the Aurignacian industry, and was succeeded by the Solutrean. The Perigordian industry is characterized by denticulate Mousterian-style tools, stone knives with one sharp edge and one flat edge, and various scrapers, borers, burins, small blades, and pendants.
