retinite (fossil resin)
- Scope note
- General term for any of a large group of fossil resins occurring in deposits of brown lignite, peat, etc. These resins resemble succinite in appearance, but contain little or no succinic acid. Around 40 varieties of amber are recognized, divided into two main groups: those containing succinic acid make up the succinite group and those having little or no succinic acid belong to the retinite group.
